HORROR GENRE
This page contains work we did in the summer holidays allowing us to gain and develop knowledge of the horror genre. We analyzed some films and created our own treatments. We studied the different theories and sub-genres which we can apply to our final products.
ICONIC HORROR
We looked at different iconic horror films and researched facts and information about each film.
SEMIOTICS
All iconic horror films have different signs and symbols to give different connotations of horror throughout the whole of the film. ll these connotations can be identified though Explicit Icons, Implicit Symbols and Iconic Signs.
SUB-GENRES
In the horror genre there are many sub-genres different horror films can go under. Each sub-genre follows different conventions in order to make the horror film as effective as possible.
HORROR THEORIES
There are different theories that have to be considered and chosen before making a horror film. Some of the theories include Burton, Todorov, Propp and Male Gaze.
TRAILER CONTENT ANALYSIS
We had to watch different horror trailers to then identify and analyse the different techniques used, for example sound, editing and camera.
TREATMENT
We created different treatments for our own film which gave us a deeper understanding of what genre we want to do.
STORYBOARDS
As a follow up from our treatments we made, we then had to create a storyboard and draw up what some of the shots would look like and annotate them.
FILM CRITS
We analysed different films by identifying key features of the the Burton and Todorov theories. We then gave our opinion of what we thought about them.
SUMMER WORK
For our summer work we created a poster, magazine cover, trailer and did some photography. For each of these we had to follow conventions which allows us to make them as effective as possible.
